County of Cleveland issued the following announcement on May 23.
The annual Cleveland County Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service took place today at the Fallen Heroes Memorial Park in Shelby. This service is dedicated in honor and remembrance of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the citizens of Cleveland County.

The City of Marion has issued a Stage 1 Water Shortage Advisory due to extreme drought conditions in McDowell County. Residents are asked to voluntarily reduce non-essential water use by at least five percent. The city will provide updates as conditions evolve.
