0Comments

County of McDowell issued the following announcement on May 18.

Did you know McDowell County has a Tourism Development Authority?

They are a non-profit government authority operating according to state law and regulations.  The Authority’s sole source of revenue is occupancy tax, collected by McDowell County, on hotel/motel rooms and other types of short-term vacation rentals.

They advertise the county as a tourism destination, operate a visitor center, and pay for other administration-related expenses. The Authority is governed by a board of directors and functions as a “self-funded department” of the McDowell County Government operating according to an inter-local agreement.

Their colorful website is full of information on all the best spots in McDowell County and can be helpful to locals as well.
