After Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed a bill that would permit outdoor seating for North Carolina establishments, State House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) responded by saying that the governor is unwilling to help businesses.
Under the second phase of reopening, North Carolina restaurants can have 50% capacity indoors or outdoors, Moore said in a June 5 statement published to his website. But under this same phase, other establishments in the state can't operate with the same rules.
“The Governor’s veto of a commonsense and safe outdoor seating policy shows his unwillingness to respond to cries for help by family-owned businesses across North Carolina,” Moore said in the statement.
The General Assembly approved legislation that would allow all establishments to be able to operate with 50% capacity indoors or outdoors, but Cooper vetoed the bill, according to the press release.
