Cost of college went up for all students at McDowell Technical Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.4 percent for 2018-19 at McDowell Technical Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

North Carolina residents paid $1,926 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $26 more than the $1,900 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 239.3 percent more than residents this year, or $6,534. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 0.4 percent from $6,508 in 2017-18.

About 99 percent of the school's undergraduate population are North Carolina residents. And about 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 81 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 60 students received grants or scholarships totaling $267,267.

Including all undergraduates (1,105), 540 students used grants or scholarships totaling $1.9 million.
