Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) spoke about plans for the upcoming legislative session, shut down the rumor that state Republicans don’t invest in public schools, and determined that a lower "max tax" will later help families’ take-home pay.
In his Talking Points Update on Aug. 26, he pointed out that North Carolina is No. 1 in the region and Top 10 in the United States for K-12 funding factors.
He also said he hasn’t received budget requests from Gov. Roy Cooper.
“I guess I will find out from him whenever the press conference is like everyone else," Moore said on his website. "It would be nice to know that before, but that is becoming the norm I’m afraid."
Moore said that legislators are looking to Cooper for direction about reopening the state during COVID-19.
"The thing we’re asking the Governor to do is really look at where we are with the phased part of reopening ... particularly now when North Carolina is on an island as the only state that has certain businesses shut down, and look, what we’re doing is not entirely working," Moore said.
