City of Marion issued the following announcement on Oct. 27.
The Joseph McDowell Historical Catawba River Greenway will reopen to the public on Wednesday, October 27, following efforts to clean and remove debris from the trail that was caused during flooding on Thursday, October 7.
Members of the public can access the greenway from either entrance to the greenway, but need to keep in mind that the second bridge on the phase 1 side of the Greenway, located on Sam Phillips Drive, has washed out. That means that walkers using either entrance to the Greenway will need to turn around once they reach the washed out bridge.
City of Marion Staff and the McDowell Trails Association Members are currently assessing the bridge to determine the best way to repair the structure.
