In the 2022-23 school year, Science scores among the county district dropped to 15.1%, a decline of 4.8% from the previous school year when 19.9% of students were considered ready for post-secondary education.
For comparison, North Carolina saw 23.8% of its students meeting or exceeding the ACT benchmarks for Science during this year.
Beyond Science, 29.5% of McDowell County 11th-graders met English college readiness benchmarks in the 2022-23 school year.
