North Carolina lawmakers approved the Bipartisan Elections Act of 2020, which includes temporary reforms to absentee ballots policy and elections funding, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) posted the policy update to his website on June 11 noting that the measure passed 105 to 14 and will allow the state to make changes to its "no-excuse" absentee ballot policy.
“The legislative process is the proper forum to consider elections funding and reforms, and this General Assembly has worked together in a bipartisan manner to ensure the effective administration of our elections in 2020,” Moore said in his website post.
The Bipartisan Elections Act includes allowing absentee ballot requests to be done through email, fax or online portal and gives funding for counties to use for in-person voting and to cover increased election costs as well as to recruit precinct officials, Moore posted to his website.
