House Speaker Time Moore (R-Cleveland) recently hailed $29 million from the state’s $1.5 billion COVID-19 relief package that will go toward funding coronavirus research in North Carolina.
In a July 23 post to his Facebook page, Moore said that the funding was made possible by the $1.5 billion relief package put together by the General Assembly, which included, “tens of millions of dollars for North Carolina universities to study and fight the virus.”
The $29 million to be distributed will come through the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory and support 85 projects, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill said in a news release on July 22.
"Each one of these 85 projects will have a direct impact on improving the health and safety of North Carolinians," UNC Chancellor Kevin M. Guskiewicz said in the news release. "We are grateful for the opportunity to continue serving our state as we face this pandemic. We are looking forward to working with our fellow System schools to find solutions and strategies for fighting COVID-19."
